Drive on the left
Cyprus drives on the left — the same as the UK. If you're from mainland Europe or the US, take it steady for the first day or two, especially on mountain roads.
Book early in peak season
July and August are extremely busy. Car hire availability drops fast — book at least 1- 2 weeks ahead if you're travelling in summer.
A small car goes a long way
You don't need a big car for most of Cyprus. A small automatic is perfect for coastal roads and towns.
Fill up before the mountains
Petrol stations are sparse in the Troodos mountains. Always fill up in town before heading up — and carry a bottle of water in the car.
